As a result of the tremendous response from golf fans in New England, all tickets for the Deutsche Bank Championship, Aug. 26-Sept. 1 at the Tournament Players Club of Boston in Norton, MA., have sold out. The Championships world-class field, featuring such standouts as Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk and British Open champion Ben Curtis, combined with the Championships appeal throughout New England, resulted in the sell-out. The Deutsche Bank Championship is Massachusetts first PGA TOUR event in five years. Attendance at the Deutsche Bank Championship is limited to 25,000 people per day and officials said tickets for the 2004 Championship wont go on sale until after this years event. The support for this Championship has come from throughout New England, Championship Director Jay Monahan said. Our goal from the beginning was to put together a Championship the golf fans of New England could be proud of, and we are thrilled with their response. That response started from the moment tickets went on sale in early April. Daily, weekly and corporate ticket packages for the Deutsche Bank Championship went on sale for the first time on April 7 and the two corporate ticket packages, the Bay Package and the Harbor Package, sold out in early May. Fans fortunate enough to purchase tickets will see 156 players compete for the $900,000 first prize coming from one of the richest purses on the PGA TOUR -- $5 million. The Championship is one of 48 official events on the PGA TOUR and the events charitable proceeds will benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation and several New England-based organizations. The Massachusetts Golf Associations ForeKids Golf Program and its newly opened 18-hole junior development and enrichment facility, MGA Links at Mamantapett, are two initiatives working to expand the game of golf to all segments of the states population in this, the 100th anniversary of the MGA. Proceeds will also benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Boston, the Boys and Girls Club of Providence and Citydance, a scholarship dance program offered to Bostons third grade students. Championship week for the Deutsche Bank Championship begins with practice rounds Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27 and a Pro-Am on Thursday, August 28. The four-day Championship begins Friday, August 29 and continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 1the only official Monday finish on the PGA TOUR. The first two rounds of the Championship will be covered on USA Network and the final two rounds will be televised on ABC-TV. |
