London, 18 November 2004: TWI has appointed Richard Clemmow, former Director of Factual Programmes at Carlton, in a brand new role to be its new Head of Factual Programming. Clemmow will join the independent next month (Dec) assuming responsibility for all TWIs factual output including its award-winning Colour of War documentary strand. He will also be leading TWIs development of a full range of factual programmes as the company continues to expand its non sport programming. This summers "D-Day in Colour" for ITV1 will be followed by "Adolf Hitler in Colour" next year, screening for the first time long-lost colour footage of the tyrant which has been missing for the past 40 years. Production has also started on a further "In Colour" show which was recently commissioned in the UK. TWIs Factual department also made the acclaimed Christopher Reeve documentaries, "Hope in Motion", and "Keeping Hope in Motion", which charted the tragic Superman actors brave battle to walk again following a horse-riding accident which left him paralysed. "Keeping Hope in Motion" aired on BBC1 last month, two weeks after Reeve succumbed to a fatal infection. Clemmow ran Carltons award-winning factual department for two years, producing documentaries for all the UKs major channels as well as international broadcasters. He also comes with extensive knowledge of the US market having established Carltons US East Coast factual production operation in 2000 as well as producing a raft of programmes for American channels. Earlier this year he won a US Emmy award for the PBS documentary "Watergate + 30". Before moving to the United States in 1999, he was Head of News Programmes and Deputy Head of Political Programmes at BBC News, Deputy Editor of Newsnight, and a senior programme producer at ITNs Channel 4 News. TWI Senior Vice President Production and Business Development, Alastair Waddington, said: I am delighted to welcome someone with Richard Clemmows experience to TWI. He will be a tremendous asset to us at a time when the company is seeking to underpin its existing output by exploring new territories and markets. Richard Clemmow said: Im thrilled to be joining a company that has the focus, resources and backing to expand successfully into new areas of production. Ive worked previously with executives and producers at TWI and have always admired their energy, skill and professionalism. Im delighted to have the opportunity help build the future success of one of the most exciting indies in the business. Editors notes: TWI is the television arm of sports marketing giant IMG.
