The Worlds No. 3 Golfer Confirms His Commitment to PGA TOUR Playoff Event at TPC Boston, Aug. 28-Sept. 3 NORTON, MASS. (August 7, 2007) The Deutsche Bank Championship honor roll of champions, which includes Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Adam Scott, reads like a whos who list of active PGA TOUR greats. Now fan favorite and World No. 3 Phil Mickelson has put himself in the running to be next on that list after committing to play in his first Deutsche Bank Championship, which begins in three weeks. Mickelson, tied for second with Singh among active PGA TOUR golfers with 31 career TOUR victories, is the latest player to commit his intention to the PGA TOUR to join what will be the strongest field in Championships history, which dates back to 2003. The 2007 Deutsche Bank Championship, which features a record $7 million purse and $1.26 million winners check, will take place Aug. 28-Sept. 3 at the Tournament Players Club Boston in Norton, Mass. Woods will return as defending champion along with the top 120 players on the PGA TOUR. The Championship will be the second of four PGA TOUR Playoff events, with players vying for the inaugural FedExCup and its record prize of $10 million. Mickelson figures to be among the foremost contenders to win the Championship and the PGA TOUR Playoffs. We are looking forward to having Phil make his first appearance at the Deutsche Bank Championship, Championship Director Eric Baldwin said. Our Championship has grown in stature in its short history and Phil fits right in line with our mission to showcase the worlds best golf in front of the nations best sports fans over Labor Day weekend. Mickelson is third on the 2007 PGA TOUR money list, having won over $4,000,000, and ranks fourth in the FedExCup standings. Nicknamed Lefty, he has won multiple tournaments each of the last four years, having already won this years PLAYERS Championship and AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. A six-time Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup selection, Mickelsons three major victories have come during the past three years, with wins at the Masters in 2004 and 2006 to go along with his 2005 PGA Championship. The last remaining tickets are currently on sale for the Deutsche Bank Championship. The tournament organizers have seen a tremendous increase in demand for tickets to the already-popular New England Labor Day event. Tickets, sold on a first-come, first-served basis, can be purchased by visiting the official Championship website at www.dbchampionship.com or by calling 877-TIX-4DBC. About The Tournament Players Club Boston TPC Boston is a private golf club located in Norton, Massachusetts and is part of the 21 Club, TPC Network owned and operated by the PGA TOUR. The Club opened on June 28, 2002 and was designed by Arnold Palmer. The Club has quickly risen in stature in part due to hosting the Deutsche Bank Championship over Labor Day weekend since 2003. Recently, the Club has continued to evolve with an extensive course renovation to all 18 holes led by architect Gil Hanse. The course has developed a more traditional look and feel emulating some of the great old golf courses on New England. Stack sodded bunkers, chocolate drop mounds, whispy fescue and rock walls frame many of the holes visually, while a heightened emphasis to shot selection is also quite evident. The new look has been matched by the implementation of traditional caddie program for the Members as TPC Boston provides a PGA TOUR experience not only during the Deutsche Bank Championship, but all season long. # # # |
