AMONG ELITE NAMES EXPECTED TO CONTEND FOR DEUTSCHE BANK CHAMPIONSHIP, AUG. 28 SEPT. 3

REVAMPED Tournament Players Club Boston Plays Host
To Prestigous PGA TOUR Playoff Event

NORTON, Mass. (July 30, 2007) Its another chapter in New Englands rich playoff history, a chapter that features Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh and the rest of the top 120 golfers in the world. This chapter will be penned Labor Day weekend, when the Deutsche Bank Championship returns to the Tournament Players Club Boston Aug. 28-Sept. 3.

For the first time, the Deutsche Bank Championship takes its place as one of the four PGA TOUR Playoff events, featuring a 120-player field, a $7 million purse, a $1.26 million first-prize check, a revamped TPC Boston and a top-echelon field of the worlds best players battling for a spot in the season-ending Tour Championship and the $10 million first prize. The battle for one of those 30 spots in the Tour Championship will get a turbo boost at TPC Boston. Only the players with the top 70 point totals after the Deutsche Bank Championship will move on to the next playoff event.

You look at the players who figure to be here over Labor Day weekend and whats at stake and its easy to understand why theres a level of excitement surrounding this years Deutsche Bank Championship, Championship Director Eric Baldwin said. You know with Tiger, Phil, Vijay, Jim Furyk, Adam Scott and Ernie Els here, the potential for remarkable golf is always there.

We could not be more proud to showcase the work Gil Hanse and Brad Faxon have put into making TPC Boston a truly traditional New England golf venue for these great players.

Leading the list of those great players is the incomparable Woods, who doubles as defending champion of the event that benefits the Tiger Woods Learning Center. Last year, Woods rode a final-round 63 his lowest finishing round en route to a title to his first Deutsche Bank Championship and his fifth consecutive victory.
Tiger played unbelievable," said Singh, who carded his own unbelievable round one day earlier, when he fired a course-record 61. "He made two eagles and just took it away."
Woods is enjoying not only his new daughter, Sam Alexis, but a typical season that includes runners-up in both the Masters and U.S. Open and victories at the Buick Invitational, Wachovia Championship and World Golf Championships-CA Championship. He currently leads the FedExCup standings.
Singh is familiar with not only unbelievable golf his course-record 61 came during a constant rain that kept everything wet but hes familiar with the sky-blue Deutsche Bank Championship trophy. Three years ago, Singh was at the top of his considerable game, winning the Deutsche Bank Championship as one of his 10 titles in 2004. His second-place finish last year earned him $594,000 and vaulted him to No. 1 on the Deutsche Bank Championship career money list.

Singh, who won the season-opening Mercedes Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard, is second in FedExCup points.

Mickelson, the No. 2-ranked player in the world, also holds the No. 3 spot on the FedExCup rankings. Hell be making his first appearance at TPC Boston.

The popular left-hander owns two titles this year: the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the prestigious PLAYERS Championship. Mickelson also lost in a three-hole playoff to Charles Howell III at the Nissan Open the week after his dominating victory at Pebble Beach.

Woods, Singh and Mickelson will undoubtedly be the featured competitors, but given the depth of the 120-player field, theres the chance someone like Furyk (sixth on the FedExCup standings), Scott (ninth), Howell (seventh) or Masters champion Johnson (fifth) could take command.

The 2003 champion of the inaugural Deutsche Bank Championship and author of a tournament-record-winning score of 20-under-par 264, Scott is well acquainted with TPC Boston. So is Howell, who tied for 18th last year, tied for fourth in 2005 and tied for ninth in 2004.

The 120-player field will consist of the players with the top 120 point totals following the first PGA TOUR Playoff event The Barclays.

Practice rounds for the Deutsche Bank Championship begin on Tuesday, Aug. 28, and Wednesday, Aug. 29, with a pro-am competition on Thursday, Aug. 30. The four-day Championship begins Friday, Aug. 31, and continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 3. The first two rounds of the Championship will be covered on Golf Channel, and the final two rounds will be televised on NBC Sports.

Fans are urged to purchase tickets early for the tournament because a sellout is expected for the only scheduled Monday finish on the PGA TOUR. Tickets, sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, can be purchased by visiting the official Championship website at www.dbchampionship.com or by calling 877-TIX-4DBC.

About The Tournament Players Club Boston
TPC Boston is a private golf club located in Norton, Massachusetts and is part of the 21 Club, TPC Network owned and operated by the PGA TOUR. The Club opened on June 28, 2002 and was designed by Arnold Palmer. The Club has quickly risen in stature in part due to hosting the Deutsche Bank Championship over Labor Day weekend since 2003.

Recently, the Club has continued to evolve with an extensive course renovation to all 18 holes led by architect Gil Hanse. The course has developed a more traditional look and feel emulating some of the great old golf courses on New England. Stack sodded bunkers, chocolate drop mounds, whispy fescue and rock walls frame many of the holes visually, while a heightened emphasis to shot selection is also quite evident. The new look has been matched by the implementation of traditional caddie program for the Members as TPC Boston provides a PGA TOUR experience not only during the Deutsche Bank Championship, but all season long.
