The following lists a brief description of the volunteer committees and functions supporting the Deutsche Bank Championship. Depending on the committee, volunteers may be required before, during, or after Championship week. A variety of committee openings typically become available, but specific openings are not guaranteed. Several committees schedule mandatory training sessions prior to Championship Week in order to familiarize volunteers with their specific duties. CADDIES/TEE OPERATIONS: Responsible for registration, assignment and tracking of TOUR Caddies. Including towel and vest distribution; and daily operation of 1st/10th tees. CARTS: Responsible for any shuttles on course, for player and/or official scorers, cart distribution & collection, and leaderboard charging Tuesday through Monday of Championship week. Including assistance in cart control and maintaining a safe operating environment. CHAMPIONSHIP OFFICE STAFF: Work in the Championship Office prior to and during the event. Responsibilities include answering phones, send out mailings, and assist the Championship staff. COMMUNICATIONS: Responsibilities include maintaining an equipment inventory, training others how to use the equipment, and distributing phones, pagers, and radios to appropriate committee members. CORPORATE HOSPITALITY: Assist Championship Headquarters and Sponsors in greeting and welcoming the patrons of the Corporate Tents and to assure that all persons entering these facilities have the proper credentials. ECOLOGY: Monitor waste receptacles and general grounds appearance. MANUAL SCORING: Responsible for posting scores of the groups as they approach greens, and on the monsterboard at the 18th green. All scores will be relayed by computer/radio. MARSHALS: Enforce crowd control during Championship, ensuring players safe and easy access from hole to hole and signaling the gallery for quiet as players address the ball to make their shot. OPERATIONS: Assist with installation of on-course signage (prechampionship). Deliver necessary supplies (i.e. water, cups, etc) to various on-course locations. Also, Responsible for receiving shipments to the Championship, distributing received shipments to the appropriate persons, assist Exhibition Village sponsors in maintaining the items in their booths. PRACTICE AREAS: Help to ensure that the practice areas are kept orderly and neat. This position will also assist in ensuring that only professionals and pro-am participants are admitted to the practice areas and that crowd traffic is kept away from the entrance and exit gates. PRESS RELATIONS: Assists the Media Representative in working with the press, answering phones, clipping articles from daily papers, photocopying, running errands and faxing Championship results. PRO AM OPERATIONS: This committee provides support for all aspects of the Monday & Wednesday Championship Pro Ams. Responsibilities include assembling/distribution of gift packs, registering amateurs, assisting at the pairings party and awards parties. SCORING STANDARDS: Standard bearers carry a standard sign and walk the entire course with a PGA TOUR group. They are paired with a walking scorer and are responsible for posting each player's score in relation to par on their standard in order to keep the gallery updated. (Typically a junior volunteer position under 18 years of age). SHOTLINK FAIRWAY: Stands inside the ropes near landing areas of fairway recording player shots on a PALM pilot with the use of a trigger controlled laser. Responsible for relaying hole information to the SHOTLINK SCORING TRAILER. General golf knowledge helpful. SHOTLINK GREENSIDE: Stands in 4'-8' elevated platform recording player shots on a PALM pilot getting to the green as well as putts with the use of a survey grade laser. Responsible for relaying hole information to the SHOTLINK SCORING TRAILER. General golf knowledge required. SHOTLINK SCORING: Walks with the players recording their scores, marking all shots getting to the green as well as putts. Responsible for relaying hole score information to the SHOTLINK SCORING TRAILER. General golf knowledge required. SPECTATOR RELATIONS: Responsibilities include greeting spectators at front gate, checking for credentials and items not allowed on course, distributing daily pairing sheets, selling Official Championship Program Book and tickets at the main gate (if still available). TRAFFIC & PARKING: Volunteers assist with off-site public parking and check for appropriate parking passes for onsite parking, redirecting unauthorized vehicles to appropriate locations. Members also control vehicular traffic at crosswalks TRANSPORTATION: Receive, inventory and control the issuance of courtesy cars. Meet players, officials and designated guests at the airport and assist them with their transportation needs. Must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driver's license. Needed mostly at beginning and end of Championship week. UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION: Assist with the inventory and distribution of volunteer uniforms prior to the Championship. This position will also need staffing during Championship week to assist anyone needing to exchange sizes. VOLUNTEER SERVICES: Assist in servicing volunteers during Championship week in the Volunteer Hospitality. WILL CALL: Responsible for distributing tickets that have been purchased by phone or placed in will call by sponsors and PGA TOUR players. Volunteers must check identification in order to distribute complimentary tickets to those with appropriate credentials.
